Springboard’s Marketing & Insights Director, Diane Wehrle, took a closer look at how retail destinations and high streets have fared throughout the pandemic, the lessons learnt during this period, as well as footfall and retail trends since the lifting of all restrictions.

We were joined by some exciting industry guests who will be sharing the trends they have experienced so far, and their expectations for retail performance for the rest of 2021 and the Christmas trading period.

Diane Wehrle
Marketing & Insights Director. Springboard

Diane is regarded as one of the leading experts on retail and retail destinations, with unparalleled knowledge and expertise in understanding current and emerging retail issues and consumer trends. Diane is a regular commentator on the performance of retail for national broadcast and print media, appearing regularly on BBC, ITV, Sky News and CNBC and her opinion is often quoted in the UK’s national and regional press.

Diane has 30 years’ experience in retail, and is a founding director of Springboard which was established in 2002. Diane leads all of Springboard’s insights, and authors its regular commentaries, articles, reviews, and topical reports. She specialises in delivering intelligence and insights on both current retail performance and long term retail trends to retailers, hospitality occupiers, landlords, investors and place managers.

Lisa Carlson
CEO, Canterbury Business Improvement District

Lisa Carlson is CEO of the Canterbury Business Improvement District, a BID that has won 15 awards over the last seven years and helped to raise Canterbury’s profile in Kent and beyond. Some of the initiatives which Lisa has helped facilitate include delivering city-wide WiFi, animating the city with floral displays, Christmas lights, bunting, window vinyls and pavement decorations to help improve the experience; as well as expanding customer reach with award-winning events and campaigns, helping to increase footfall and spend in the city.

Lisa is also Chair of the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), a membership body that supports and represents the town and city management industry across the UK and Ireland.

Stuart Mitchell
Head of Third Party Asset Management, NewRiver REIT

Stuart has over 16 years commercial property experience specialising in the retail and leisure sector and joined NewRiver in 2010 shortly after its inception. As a member of NewRiver’s Executive Committee and Head of Third Party Asset Management, Stuart is responsible for the complete asset management cycle of NewRiver’s third party asset management mandates as well as NewRiver’s southern portfolio and wider Leasing, Commercialisation and town regeneration strategies working with councils, land owners and occupiers. Stuart also sits on the British Property Federation Insolvency Committee, Revo Asset Management Advisory Panel and is a member of a number of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) across the UK.

 

Peter Grant
Global Insights, Boots UK

Peter’s commercial experience spans over 30 years with 18 years spent in FMCG. He joined Boots UK three years ago as part of the Global Insights team, and recently moved over to the media team. From managing production lines to media budgets, some challenges still remain constant however the most recent one is undoubtedly the biggest one which the industry has faced since Peter stepped into the FMCG world.
