Pedestrians Tracked and Counted in a Mall Location by Springboard iSight Counting System As a key objective of a shopping centre is to generate customer activity, measuring the number of customers attracted to a centre is critical in determining its success. Springboard's Shopping Centre Counting service monitors the number of customers visiting a shopping centre: it identifies both the relative significance of each entrance, and also tracks customers along malls within the centre into retailers' units. The application for this service are numerous, encompassing tactical issues such as the success of marketing and promotion, operational issues such as staffing levels and strategic issues such as enhancing tenant mix and configuration, maximising portfolio performance and evaluating the benefits of refurbishment and redevelopment.

Key Features of Springboard's i-site technology are that:
  • it uses movement to count rather than heat and light change
    i-site counts by tracking people rather than counting by identifying contrasts and light changes, so extremely high accuracy levels are obtained even where there are poor environmental conditions with poor light
  • it requires only one camera to count across an entire entrance or mall, thus reducing installation cost and duration
    For example, where other solutions require up to eight cameras to cover a 10 meter door, Springboard's i-site technology can utilise just the one camera for a door of up to 20 metres.
  • it can track customers into retailers from a camera in the mall
    i-site has the unique ability to actually track customers as they enter multiple retail units from a single camera positioned in the mall - which means lower costs and less disruption to tenants
  • all data is delivered online through Springboard's website at www.spring-board.info
    Data is uploaded to the internet on a daily basis, and is illustrated in a variety of reports and as a database. Reports by hour of the day, day of the week and by counting location are available, and comparisons can be drawn with other locations and across different time periods.
  • it has the facility to integrate other datasets
    A range of data gathered elsewhere, for example indexed retailer sales data, can be presented alongside customer counting data on www.spring-board.info. This enables a range of performance indicators to be monitored and presented easily and effectively.
  • it generates substantial cost savings where there are existing cameras
    If the centre has existing cameras, then cost savings can be as much as 40% lower than competitors' solutions that require new and dedicated cameras. All that is needed is the control pc and the software.
  • it offers free CCTV coverage with Springboard i-site system
    If there are no existing CCTV cameras at the entrances, Springboard can install cameras. Because we use exactly the same cameras as a high graded security installation we can easily connect our cameras into the security CCTV to give valuable additional CCTV coverage with high resolution colour images.
