i-site™ Local Transport monitoring
In most major towns and cities there are complex issues surrounding the monitoring of traffic. In order to produce an effective Local Transport Plan all aspects of the transport system must be accurately monitored. Government guidelines require that LTP monitoring encompasses pedestrian, vehicular public transport with the emphasis on monitoring modal change. Effective monitoring should therefore be the key area of activity, and a comprehensive set of indicators should be gathered to measure progress on implementation of the LTP.
i-site™ vehicle monitoring is image processing software which can be connected to CCTV cameras or stored video images to produce a live or archived count, monitor traffic numbers track and classify vehicles. The software is revolutionary in it's ability to count and track vehicles form a live or recorded CCTV image. i-site™ is designed to produce counts more accurately and over greater time periods than previously available thorough manual counting. Counting is achieved instantly without any need for operator input other than to define zones to count on the image. i-site™ can be set up in minutes from either new views or existing archived footage.
The system can use existing CCTV cameras on roads motorways or junctions or can be used as a portable system when connected to a portable camera.
The system can also be used as a base station. Up to 8 video inputs can be attached to the processing system. These video inputs can be from a camcorder or a standard video cassette recorder. The input could also be mpeg files or compressed files from hard drives. The processing platform can be easily set up by the user and requires very little user input - most features being fully automatic. The software can then identify, count and track vehicles as outlined below;
Springboard
Module one - counting
Vehicles
Highly accurate counting of cars and private light goods vehicles. Use of existing CCTV means no cabling ducting slot cutting or data streaming from remote sites. All processing can be done centrally without the needs to install and maintain costly localised detectors. This system will save hours of manual counting by operatives.
Springboard
Module two - Vehicle Classification
Can classify vehicles by size and shape ie:
  • Private / light goods
  • Transit type vehicles
  • Heavy goods
Springboard
Module three - tracking
Junction / roundabout monitoring
i-site™ can identify vehicles as they approach the roundabout and automatically track the vehicle as it turns or leaves the roundabout by the exit. System can count and track all lanes in view of the camera simultaneously.
Turning Monitoring - Tracking module
Track and follow which turns vehicles take whilst classifying at the same time.
Springboard
General Uses
Automatic video processing
System can analyse up to 8 separate video images simultaneously - and produces report without the need to use video monitoring bureaus. Having
UTC live counts
Automatically monitors and produces a live count and classification of vehicle movements when linked to UTC CCTV cameras.
Motorway counting and classifying
System can count any speed of vehicle and therefore is perfectly suited to counting and classifying motorway borne vehicles. Motorway slip roads and junction monitoring is also simplified by using existing CCTV on carriageways to count the turning movements or numbers of users.
Springboard
Car Park Monitoring
i-site™ can identify car park usage and occupancy of internal or multi level car parks by monitoring the number of vehicles entering and leaving the premises. The system can be deployed either using permanent or temporary cameras for permanent counting.
Upgrades
Springboard
Cycle monitoring
Cycles have historically been tricky to count in free flowing traffic areas. i-site™ can accurately count and track cycles in free flowing traffic - the system determines the speed of the object and thus can differentiate between cycles and motorcycles. Cycles can be counted in any area viewed by the camera - streets, cycle ways and even pavements.
Pedestrians
Highly accurate counting and tracking of pedestrians. Can be used for pedestrian crossing analysis - direction and destination habits of pedestrians when crossing roads. Useful for PV squared analysis and desire line tracking.
Springboard
Speed detection
As a result of running the Module three tracking software, the future upgrade of speed detection will shortly be available. This will involve accurate measurement of the speed of a variety of vehicles from the existing camera view.
File output
All count data is outputted to a CSV files containing header information, time date stamp, and classification of vehicle type. These files can be stored on the springboard web site or uploaded into sql databases or Access databases.
